Teaching and Mentorship
Developing judgment through reflection, critique, and design practice
Learning through practice and reflection
I strive to create learning experiences that are active, reflective, and grounded in real-world relevance. My teaching is influenced by John Dewey and Donald Schön and their accounts of experiential learning and reflection.
In design studios and graduate seminars, students encounter meaningful problems, receive critique, and reflect on their decisions. My aim is to help them develop technical competence alongside professional judgment and identity.
Curriculum and educational research
At Purdue, I co-created the undergraduate UX Design major. My teaching connects with collaborative research on framing, design methods, critique, productive failure, and professional identity.
Education asks how students develop the capacities visible in professional practice: interpreting situations, considering alternatives, and selecting or adapting an approach.
Study abroad and digital civics
I bring Purdue UX Design students abroad to participate in the Digital Civics Exchange at Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK. The exchange connects students with international peers, researchers, and community partners through civic technology design projects.
